EWC Concludes in Brussels

9 september 2025

RDE joined the final wrap-up of the EU Digital Wallet Consortium (EWC) in Brussels, concluding a major chapter in Europe’s first wave of Large-Scale Pilots for the EU Digital Identity Wallet. EWC ran from 2023 to 2025 and tested prototype wallets in real-life settings across Europe, bringing together a broad public–private ecosystem to validate cross-border interoperability.

EWC united partners from 24 European countries and piloted three use cases to prove the wallet can work nationally and across borders. The consortium’s primary use case focus was Digital Travel Credentials, helping turn the EUDI Wallet from an abstract concept into something demonstrable and measurable.

RDE’s contribution focused on practical value in places where people already interact with Europe: culture and tourism. We demonstrated a wallet-based approach where visitors can confirm age or eligibility and access services in a few taps—while staying in control of their data—reducing manual checks and administrative friction for institutions.

With EWC concluded, our work continues in the next phase of Europe’s wallet ecosystem through WE BUILD and APTITUDE, with a growing emphasis on usability, trust, and real-world value at scale.
